Jake, Akin to this topic in MN anyway, I recall the County-sponsored extension groups my Mother used to attend where the finer points of cooking and sewing were presented. It wasn't really about making art or craft, but bordered on it. Most counties had a County Agent who worked with farmers to advance crop and animal technology, and a County Homemaker, a woman who met with women in the area every month. I don't know if these positions still exist in the counties, but back then, everyone knew these people and learned from them. Thanks for an interesting article that broke some memories out of the ice!
